Anthony Davis is going to remain in the purple and gold for the long haul.
Not long after Davis became extension eligible on Friday, Aug. 4, the star big man agreed to a historic three-year max extension worth $186 million, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The $62 million annual figure makes this the richest annual extension in NBA history.
Davis is coming off a strong campaign for the Lakers. He averaged 22.6 points, 14.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks in their run to the 2023 Western Conference Finals. After signing this lucrative extension, he will remain in Los Angeles through the 2027-28 season.

Anthony Davis contract extension details
Davis has two years remaining on the current five-year, $189 million contract he signed in 2020. By signing this contract extension, Davis is now set to earn over $270 million over the next five seasons.
Instead of testing free agency next offseason, the extension marks a mutual long-term commitment between Davis and the Lakers. The deal also provides stability for the 30-year-old Davis, who has dealt with his fair share of injury woes in the past.
For the Lakers, locking Davis into a long-term extension now secures the foundation of their roster, especially with the clock ticking on how long LeBron James will remain a Laker.
