The New York Yankees placed outfielder Alex Verdugo on the paternity list, the team announced Monday.

With Verdugo on the paternity list, he will miss up to three games. He is eligible to return Tuesday or use the maximum amount and return to the team for the final game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

Verdugo was recently moved to the cleanup spot in the lineup and has been improving over the last few weeks or so. Over his last 15 games, Verdugo is slashing .302/.391/.472 with two home runs, eight RBU and eight walks in 53 at-bats.

The Yankees will miss Verdugo's left-handed bat in the crucial four-game series against the Orioles. Taking his place on the active roster is catcher Carlos Narvaez, who is being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Narvaez has yet to make his MLB debut, and it's unclear whether he will in the short span that Verdugo will be out. In 2024, Narvaez is hitting .211 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 76 at-bats.
