The Boston Red Sox’s top three prospects, known as the Big 3, may have a hidden fourth member. In the Big 3, there’s infielder Marcelo Mayer, outfielder Roman Anthony, and catcher Kyle Teel. This possible fourth member is infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell.

Campbell is the No. 5 prospect in the Sox’s system, and he is living up to it. During 2024, Campbell went from A+ to AAA. In that time, he was hitting .341/.445/.570 with 21 stolen bases.

In his two games in AAA, he has gotten 10 at-bats, and in those AB’s he got six RBI and a stolen base. Safe to say, he is already acclimated to the AAA level.

It would be a safe bet to expect Campbell to be lumped with the Big 3, and for him to be promoted with them as well. He will probably be a utility man until Rob Refsnyder retires and Tyler O’Neill leaves, whose contract runs out this year.

If anything, the Sox should be happy that they have a bunch of guys who are almost ready to take the next step. And if they do come up at the same time, the unpredictability that comes with new players for opponents will be skyrocketing.
