The Boston Red Sox met with the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, looking to avoid the series sweep, and they did just that with an 11-3 victory.

Boston's offense, for the first time in a long time, made the opposing pitchers pay for their mistakes.

Red Sox first baseman Dominic Smith (1-for-3) drove in three runs, and third baseman Rafael Devers (1-for-3 with a walk) drove in two with his franchise-record fifth home run in five games. Jarren Duran (1-for-5), Tyler O'Neill (1-for-3 with two walks), David Hamilton (1-for-1), Garrett Cooper (1-for-2), Wilyer Abreu (1-for-3) and Romy Gonzalez (1-for-2) all drove in a run.

Boston's pitching was also stellar, as Nick Pivetta, in his third start back from the injured list, threw six innings of one-hit, one-run ball while striking out eight.

In relief, Greg Weissert allowed two runs in his one inning, and the duo of Cam Booser and Chris Martin finished it out with a scoreless inning each.

The Red Sox are now 23-24 and will take on the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series at Tropicana Field starting on Monday.
