Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner had been in a major slump at the plate.
In his first 22 games following the All-Star break, Turner batted .168 with only four extra-base hits and seven runs batted in.
That all changed during the Phillies’ four-game series with the Washington Nationals. Turner turned it up, posting a .588 average in the series and a 1.552 OPS while hitting three doubles, and a home run, driving in four runs and scoring six more.
In recognition of his efforts, Turner has collected his second National League Player of the Week award this season.
This is the fourth time in his career that Turner has been named NL Player of the Week. He won the award once with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. He has won it with the Phillies on Sept. 3, 2023, and April 21, 2024.
Tuner was selected for the All-Star team for the third time this season and is batting .311 with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 83 games.
The Phillies remain eight games in front of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings but are in a virtual tie with the Dodgers for the top seed in the postseason.
If Turner can maintain his current momentum, he could push Philadelphia back into the World Series for the second time in three seasons.
