There might not be an organization in Major League Baseball with more talented shortstop depth than the Philadelphia Phillies.

Tearing it up at the big-league level is Trea Turner, of course, who was named to his third All-Star team in July.

Then there’s 20-year-old phenom Aidan Miller, whose talent has even alarmed some to a future infield shakeup in Philadelphia. Miller is physically imposing for a shortstop and may become a full-time third baseman in the Majors.

The shortstop talent in the Phillies system doesn’t end with Miller, however. 18-year-old stud Starlyn Caba has been showcasing his ability of late and is certainly a name to monitor in the coming years.

In a recent report ranking baseball’s best prospects aged 20 or younger, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter ranked Caba at No. 25 and discussed Caba’s plate discipline, which belies his age.

“Signed for $3 million as part of the 2023 international class, Caba made his stateside debut this season in rookie ball where he hit .254/.427/.335 with 44 hits and 51 walks over 52 games before earning a promotion to Single-A,” Reuter said.

“He is hitting just .169 in 18 games since moving up a level, but he has more walks (12) than strikeouts (10) and that advanced approach will serve him well.”

As the Phillies look to contend for a World Series over the next few months, their collective mind is focused on the present. Waiting around the corner in the near future, however, is a handful of extremely talented players (Caba included) who promise to extend Philadelphia’s dominance into the 2030s.
