The San Francisco Giants spent some money this past offseason and added players such as Blake Snell, Jorge Soler, Jordan Hicks and Matt Chapman.
Unfortunately, the moves haven't exactly panned out. While Chapman and Snell have performed well, they were unable to give the Giants the boost they needed to get back to October for the first time since 2021.
Much of the blame seemingly falls on President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi, who may be dismissed at the end of the season. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they have a potential replacement in mind, that being former Miami Marlins General Manager Kim Ng.
"If the San Francisco Giants dismiss Farhan Zaidi, president of baseball operation, at the season's conclusion, look for them to reach out to former Miami Marlins GM Kim Ng and Minnesota Twins GM Thad Levine as potential replacements," Nightengale wrote. "The Giants have missed the postseason in all but two years since winning the 2014 World Series.
The Giants have fallen on hard times since winning three World Series titles in a five-year span. As Nightengale noted, they have only reached the postseason twice since 2014.
Ng has received a lot of praise for being able to transform the Marlins and build a winning ballclub for 2023. Her team won 84 games and secured the second National League Wild Card.
In addition, Skip Schumaker earned NL Manager of the Year honors after leading the Marlins to the postseason. He was hired by Ng after the 2022 season.
Ng could help bring the Giants back to where they were last decade. Her body of work in Miami speaks for itself. If Zaidi is fired, the Giants would be wise to give Ng a chance to take the job.
We'll see if they target her in the event that Zaidi is let go.
