The St. Louis Cardinals find themselves on the outside looking in after falling short of the postseason for a second straight year.

While there are several issues within the organization, some of them can be fixed by adding certain players to strengthen the roster. The team's offense let them down this season and cost them a chance at October baseball.

With Paul Goldschmidt set to hit free agency and likely depart, St. Louis will need to replace him.

Zachary Rotman of FanSided linked the Cardinals to slugger Christian Walker, who is also a free agent this coming winter.

The 33-year-old slugger is having a strong season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is hitting .252 with 26 home runs, 83 RBI, and an .810 OPS.

Walker won't come cheap, but he would be a significant upgrade over Goldschmidt, who has had a down season in what could be his last with St. Louis.

The Cardinals were banking heavily on Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado to return to their MVP-caliber selves in 2024, only for both of them to struggle and miss the mark.

What the Cardinals need in their lineup is certainty, and Walker provides that. He could help them bounce back into contention in 2025 if signed and ignite hope among the fans in St. Louis.

It will be interesting to see if the Cardinals make a run at the slugger this winter.
