George Kambosos Jr. is ready to win gold again in front of family and friends in Australia. He must get past former lightweight king Vasiliy Lomachenko as they compete for the IBF lightweight title on May 11.

Kambosos beat Teofimo Lopez, earning a decision win to hold unified lightweight gold against the man who beat Lomachenko for all the belts. The Aussie lost them right away after facing Devin Haney for a shot at undisputed. “Ferocious” has goals to hold gold again by any means necessary.

Having a home field advantage doesn’t always work, as Kambosos lost twice against Haney in Melbourne. Beating a future Hall of Famer in Lomachenko in Perth would fix his luck at home while securing his legacy.

“A win would put me back to the king of the lightweights,” Kambosos told Sky Sports. “I was there not so long ago… It would push me back in that position. It puts me back to where I want to be, where I'm motivated to be. And I'm 30 years of age… If I can't get over a guy like Lomachenko then that opportunity really does not present itself anymore.

"I know what's at risk. I know what's at stake for this kind of fight, but that is what is motivating me more and more.”

Lomachenko lost against Lopez but was able to rebuild, winning three straight, all against former Lopez opponents. Proving a point, the Ukrainian did enough to secure a fight against Haney, where he lost in a close contest with what some have called a controversial result. A year later, he returns to the ring to once again fight for gold.
