Australia has a new boxing world champion after Skye Nicolson claimed her first full world title in dominant fashion.

Nicolson was close to perfect in Sunday's win over Sarah Mahfoud, winning all 10 rounds on two of the judges scorecards and only dropping one on the third as she claimed the WBC featherweight title.

With this win, the Australian not only claimed her first world title, but kept her perfect professional record intact, and set up a potential super-fight with Amanda Serrano.

Skye Nicolson results: Australian claims maiden world title

It was really no contest between Nicolson and Mahfoud in the end, as the newly minted world champion dominated across ten rounds.

Mahfoud barely landed a punch on the Australian, who cruised to victory in a fight she said she knew she would win before it even began.

"I knew [I would win] before I got in the ring," Nicolson said after the fight.

"She was awkward, she breaks the space very well, so I found myself falling in a little bit when I was trying to attack, but I knew what I had to do to win and that's what I did.

"My team and I said we just need to double up those attacks a little bit because she was breaking the space, but apart from that, they told me to just keep doing what I was doing and just add a little bit more."

Nicolson's confidence was palpable, especially during the final rounds of the fight, which saw her dance around the ring and pick her opponent apart, supremely confident that she had claimed a massive win.

Will Skye Nicolson fight Amanda Serrano?

With Mafoud in the rear-view mirror and her first-ever world title belt around her waist, Nicolson's eyes will now turn to Amanda Serrano, the woman who holds the other three belts in the featherweight division.

Serrano, the former unified champion, vacated the WBC strap last December after the governing body refused to allow her to defend the belt in a 12 three-minute round fight, insisting on 10 2-minute rounds.

She has stated that the only way Nicolson will be able to fight her is under these conditions, and it seems that the new WBC title holder is game, saying after the fight that she and her team will "make it happen."

"I'm ready when she's ready," Nicolson said.

"Obviously I want the belts, so it's nothing personal, Amanda, but I'm ready when you are.

"I find it funny that she waited until I was her mandatory to decide that's what she wanted to do but look, I respect the WBC's rules, that's why I'm still boxing for the WBC belt.

"But if the only way to fight the Meta Serrano is over 12 three-minute rounds, talk to my team, we'll make it happen."
