Shakur Stevenson, considered boxing's future, will headline another fight card in his home of New Jersey, defending the WBC lightweight title against Artem Harutyunyan.

A silver medalist in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Stevenson won the WBO featherweight title against Joet Gonzalez in 2019. He dethroned Jamel Herring in 2021 to become the WBO super featherweight champion. Stevenson beat Oscar Valdez for the WBC and Ring belts but got later stripped of the titles for failing to make weight against Robson Conceicao.

The 26-year-old moved another weight class and beat Edwin De Los Santos in November for the vacant WBC lightweight title. Looking to fight Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis down the road, Stevenson will prepare for his first title defense at 135.

“It feels good to be going back home to Newark, where they appreciate a young legend, and to make my first title defense at 135,” Stevenson said. “On July 6, Down Goes Artem!”

Ranked sixth in the WBC's lightweight rankings, Harutyunyan won bronze in the 2016 Olympics. "The Original" is coming off a loss last July against Frank Martin, who faces "Tank" in June. The 33-year-old has seven wins via knockout.

“I respect Shakur Stevenson as a champion, but I’m coming to shock his hometown fans and win the WBC lightweight championship,” Harutyunyan said. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will take full advantage of it. This will be my second fight in the U.S. I’ve learned and progressed since my loss to Frank Martin.”

The co-main event will see O'Shaquie Foster defend the WBC super featherweight title against Conceicao. Foster won the WBC super featherweight title in February 2023. He successfully defended the belt in The Sporting News' 2023 Fight of the Year against Eduardo Hernandez, winning via TKO following a wild affair. The 30-year-old last fought in February, beating Abraham Nova.

Conceicao is 1-2-1 in his last four fights, one of those losses being against Stevenson. He fought Emanuel Navarrete to a draw in November 2023 for the WBO super featherweight belt. “Nino” has nine wins via knockout.
