A rematch two years in the making is official, as Josh Taylor will face Jack Catterall in a non-title affair on May 25. The fight was meant for April 27 before Taylor had to back out due to injury.

The fight and event in Leeds airs on ESPN+ in the U.S. and DAZN in the U.K. and the rest of the world.

A 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Taylor turned pro in 2015. A former Commonwealth super lightweight champion, Taylor made himself known by competing in the World Boxing Super Super Series light welterweight tournament in 2018. "The Tartan Tornado" beat Ryan Martin in the quarter-finals, Ivan Baranchyk in the semi-finals for the IBF title, and Regis Prograis in the finals for the WBA and The Ring belts.

Beating Jose Ramirez for the WBC and WBO belts, becoming undisputed, Taylor beat Catterall via a controversial split decision scoring, with many believing Catterall earned the win. A rematch never came to fruition following an injury to Taylor, who was later stripped of multiple belts before losing the WBO and Ring titles against Teofimo Lopez. No gold will be on the line this time, just bragging rights.

“I’ve never run from anyone in my life, especially not Jack Catterall,” Taylor said. “He has spent the last two years running from promoter to promoter while living off my name. Jack should be careful what he wishes for because he’s getting battered on April 27. I am going to enjoy every second of this. See you soon, Jack.”

Catterall turned pro in 2012. "'El Gato'" won the  British super lightweight belt in 2017. The Lancashire-born fighter lost to Taylor despite the latter going down in the eighth both being deducted a point. Since then, Catterall beat Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares, the latter fight in October.

“I’ve wanted this fight since the moment the scorecards got read out in Glasgow,” Catterall said . “A few people say ‘move on Jack’, and that’s easy to say to when you’re not in my position. I get asked every day of my life multiple times a day, ‘when are you fighting Taylor again?’. This isn’t about belts, this is personal to me, and I can’t wait to get my hands on him. I don’t like him, I don’t respect him and on April 27 I’m going to end him.”
