The 2023 French Open — tennis' second major of the year — saw Novak Djokovic win for the third time to break the record for grand slam titles with his 23rd such triumph.

Modern great Djokovic beat Casper Ruud in straight sets to lift the La Coupe des Mousquetaires (men's singles champions), prevailing a day after Iga Swiatek beat Karolína Muchova in three to claim the Suzanne-Lenglen cup (women's singles champion).

On top of that, each player at the tournament played for a pay cheque at the grand slam, with the overall prize fund returning back to pre-covid levels.

The Sporting News looks at the total purse for the 2023 French Open and how it was broken down across the different rounds.

What is the French Open total prize money in 2023?

After a few years where the prize pot slightly shrunk due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the 2023 French Open returned to pre-pandemic levels of prize funding for players who participated.

That meant the total prize money at Roland-Garros in 2023 across all male and female tournaments came in at €49.6 million (£43.06 million). For reference, that figure was up by 12.3% compared to 2022.

It also meant that Djokovic and Swiatek received a cheque for $2,496,039 (£2,004,759) in 2023 as reward for their exhausting efforts and latest impressive performances.
