Taipei Open 2023 badminton: Indian challenge ends as Prannoy goes down to Ng Ka Long Angus in quarter-finals

Indian badminton player HS Prannoy was defeated 21-19, 21-8 by Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong at the Taipei Open 2023 in the men’s singles quarter-finals on Friday. 

The match took place at the Tian-Mu Arena, and Prannoy initially took a lead of 5-2. However, Ng Ka Long Angus made a strong comeback, and the scores were tied at 5-all. They went toe-to-toe till 19-all in the first game, but Ng Ka Long Angus won two consecutive points to pocket the first game.

In the second game, Prannoy struggled to match his opponent's intensity and trailed 8-2 going into the mid-game break. Ng Ka Long Angus maintained control and wrapped up the match in 38 minutes, winning with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-8.

This loss marked the sixth defeat for HS Prannoy against Ng Ka Long Angus in their 12 meetings. However, it is worth noting that in their last encounter during the Indonesian Open 2023, Prannoy emerged victorious with a score of 21-18, 21-16 on his way to the semi-finals.

Earlier in May, Prannoy secured a victory at the Malaysia Masters.

With Prannoy's exit from the tournament, the Indian challenge in the BWF Super 300 Taipei Open also came to an end. 

Indian shuttlers will next participate in the Canada Open, a BWF Super 500 tournament scheduled to be held in Calgary from July 4 to 9.
