T-Meeting 2023 Athletics: Jyothi Yarraji wins gold in 100m hurdles, Mohammed Pulikkalakath bags bronze in men's 400m

Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji claimed the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles event at the T-Meeting 2023 athletics meet held in Tilburg, the Netherlands, on Monday. Meanwhile, Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath bagged the bronze medal by finishing third in the men's 400m race.

The 23-year-old Jyothi Yarraji showcased her speed and agility, clocking an impressive time of 13.20s to secure victory in the category E World Ranking competition. Her journey to the final was equally remarkable, as she topped the heats with a time of 13.08s.

It was her second gold medal in as many days, following her earlier victory at the Kurpfalz Gala 2023 athletics meet in Weinheim, Germany, where she clocked a season-best time of 12.84s.

 

Belgium's Angel Agwazie clinched the silver medal in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.64s, while Dutch athlete Mira Groot claimed the bronze medal, clocking 13.78s. 

Meanwhile, Sapna Kumari, who also participated in the women's 100m hurdles event, finished fourth in the heats.

In the men's 400m race, Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath crossed the finish line with a time of 48.43s, to secure the bronze medal for India. Although Pulikkalakath's personal best stands at 48.22s, achieved in Thenhipalam, Kerala in 2022, his performance in Tilburg highlights that the ace sprinter could have done better.

Whereas, star sprinter from Assam, Amlan Borgohain, despite finishing fourth in the heats with a time of 10.55s.
