Squash World Cup 2023: India thrash South Africa 4-0 to seal semi-final berth

The Indian team got off to a flying start at the Squash World Cup as they beat South Africa 4-0 in the quarter-final to progress to the last four on Wednesday. 

Previously they had beaten Hong Kong by the same margin with Tanvi Khanna, Saurav Ghosal, Joshna Chinappa and Abhay Singh winning their respective matches at the  Express Avenue Mall in Chennai.

How many teams are participating in the 2023 Squash World Cup?

Eight teams - hosts India, Australia, Colombia, Egypt, Hong Kong China, Japan, Malaysia and South Africa are participating in the squash World Cup.

What is the format of the 2023 Squash World Cup?

The eight teams have been divided into two pools. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi-final. 

Squash World Cup 2023 Chennai pools

Pool A: Egypt, Australia, Malaysia and Colombia

Pool B: India, Japan, South Africa and Hong Kong China

In the group stage, each team plays three ties in a single-legged round-robin format. Each tie has four matches, while each game is a race to seven points. 

In the event of a draw in the knockout phase, the winning team will be decided by the difference between games won and lost in the tie.
