The 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, kicked off on 19 August. The tournament saw 28 Indian athletes enter across all competitions and categories.

In the track events, Indian golden boy Neeraj Chopra was participating in the javelin throw qualifiers on Friday morning, the final for which is to be held on Sunday. The top 12 performers (or those who throw more than 83 metres) across Group A and Group B of qualifying will make it to the final.
Did Neeraj Chopra qualify for the World Athletics Championships final?
On his very first attempt this morning, Neeraj threw a huge 88.77 m, the best in qualifying so far, as well as his personal best for the season, to kick off what could be a successful campaign for the star athlete.
By throwing well over 83 metres, he secured his place in Sunday's final with relative ease. Neeraj's best-ever throw is 89.94 m, thrown at the Diamond League in Stockholm in 2022.

How did Neeraj Chopra qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics?
In addition to making the final, Neeraj also ensured that he will be participating in next year's Olympic Games in Paris with his throw.
The Olympic qualification mark was set before the tournament started, at 85.50 metres, which Neeraj crossed by 2 metres. Depending on the results of the qualifying round, he may know who a few of his opponents in the Olympics will be.
