Neeraj Chopra injury update: 'Paris Diamond League wasn't part of competition calendar'

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clarified the rumours that he had withdrawn from the Paris Diamond League due to injury, insisting that the event was not part of his competition calendar this year.

Earlier, several Indian sports accounts and reports had claimed that he had opted not to participate in the Paris Diamond League due to a recurring adductor injury. 

He had previously discussed about his discomforts and his focus on training, to strengthen his blocking leg, to prevent groin injuries.

"I need to strengthen my blocking leg when in throw because that is when my groin gets pulled. We're working on that to see how we can reduce the impact on the groin and control the pressure on it," Neeraj had said, adding that he will consult multiple doctors after the Paris Olympics.

What did Neeraj Chopra say about his injury ahead of Paris Olympics?

The Indian Javelin star, Neeraj Chopra took to the social media platform X to clarify that contrary to reports, he had not "withdrawn" from the Paris Diamond League, because it was not part of his competition plans for this year anyway.

Once again, he assured the public that his focus was entirely on getting ready for the Paris Olympic Games starting late July.

At the same time, Neeraj in a previous interview with reporters, emphasized that his health is of more importance that taking part in a lot of competitions, saying:

"I could have competed in more events for sure and that was the plan, but I have realised that my health is paramount. Even if i feel a slight discomfort, I have learned to paus for a bit," the Indian star athlete said.

Neeraj is the reigning Olympic and World champion in the Men's javelin throw, after winning the gold medal during the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He will defend his crown in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
