ISSF Shotgun World Cup Lonato 2023: Prithviraj Tondaiman wins only medal for India

Prithviraj Tondaiman secured a bronze medal in the men's trap event as India finished ninth in the medal tally at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup Lonato 2023 in Italy.

He accumulated 34 points to secure the third position in the final. Nathan Hales of Britain claimed gold with 49 points, and Qi Ying from China secured silver with 48 points.

It marks his second individual ISSF World Cup medal, having previously won a bronze in Doha. 

Tondaiman had also finished third in the qualifying round with 122 points by posting scores of 23, 25, 24, 25, 25 in the five-round series.

However, the Paris Olympics quota holders, Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Zoravar Singh Sandhu had a bad day in the office as they failed to qualify for the finals. The former finished 16th with 120 points while Zoravar Singh Sandhu was 66th with 115 points.

The Indian women's team also failed to live up to expectations as none of them could qualify for the finals. Shreyasi Singh finished 36th with 111 points,  Manisha Keer finished 39th (111 points) and Rajeshwari Kumari (106) stood 58th.

How did India perform in skeet events at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup Lonato 2023?

India's ace skeet shooters, two-time Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa were also not at their best. 

While Bajwa finished 74th, Khan stood 116th in the qualifying round. Whereas, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (119 points) and Gurjoat Khangura (116 points) finished in the 55th and 82nd spots respectively.

In the women's category, Ganemat Sekhon, Darshna Rathore and Darshna Rathore finished ninth, 36th and 65th respectively to miss out on the final round. 

In the mixed team, Sekhon and Anant Jeet paired up while Rathore and Gurjoat Khangura formed another team. Both teams failed to make it to the final round after finishing 19th and 21st respectively. 

USA topped the medals tally with two golds and one silver in Lonato which was a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
