The new season of the men's and women's FIH Pro League kicked off on December 6, with 5 matches being completed in each category. With only one fixture each remaining in the first leg of games, the league will resume only in February.

India will enter both the men's and women's tournaments in the new year, and as a result will be participating in the 5 Nations tournament in Valencia, Spain, by way of preparation for the league stage, as well as the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
The 5 Nations tournament is set to take place from December 15-December 22 with Spain, Belgium, Germany, Ireland (women) and France (men) also set to take part.
Indian hockey teams depart for 5 Nations tournament in Valencia
On Monday, December 11, both Indian squads departed for Spain from the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Men's and women's captains Harmanpreet Singh and Savita both interacted with the media prior to departure. Savita said,
The 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 will give us invaluable exposure against some of the top hockey teams in the world ahead of the all-important FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier Ranchi 2024 next month. Going into the tournament our aim is to make sure that we address all the chinks in our armour and play to the best of our abilities.
Harmanpreet echoed his counterpart's words, emphasising the need for the Indian team to test itself against strong opposition.
