Avinash Sable, who specializes in 3000 metres steeplechase, had become the first non-Kenyan athlete to win a medal in the steeplechase category at the Commonwealth games since 1994, when he won silver in the 2022 competition.

At the 2023 Asian Games, he made history by becoming the first ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the steeplechase event.

After winning gold at the National Inter-State Championships in Panchkula, Sable stated that he had learnt from his mistakes in the last few years and vowed to deliver a memorable show at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a different approach.

"I committed mistakes in the last two years. I had gone with good fitness in the two world championships (2022 and 2023) but could not do well at both. I want to make amends, hope that this Olympics will be my best. I am starting my competition season late this time. I am doing something different this time. I will start peaking only this month," he had said.
