Australian Open 2023 badminton: Indians in the fray, how to watch

The 30th edition of the Australian Open is set to begin on Tuesday, 1 August at the State Sports Centre in Sydney, Australia.

The tournament will run for six days, culminating in the final to be played on 6 August. This is the nineteenth tournament on the BWF World Tour for 2023. As a Super 500 event, 9200 ranking points are on offer for the winners in each category.

 

 

The Indians in the fray include Japan Open semifinalist Lakshya Sen in the men's singles category, as well as 2017 Australian Open champion Srikanth Kidambi.

Women's singles star PV Sindhu is also participating, in a bid to gain some form after disappointing performances at both the Japan Open and the Korea Open.

One notable absentee from the Australian Open 2023 is doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, winners of the Korea Open.

How have Indians performed at the Australian Open?

In the previous 29 editions of the Australian Open, Indians have won a total of three titles across all the categories. 

Saina Nehwal won the women's singles in 2014 and 2016, and Srikanth Kidambi won the men's singles in 2017.
