22-year-old shooter, Manu Bhaker scripted history at the Paris Olympics 2024 as she became the first woman in Indian history to win a medal at the Olympic Games in the shooting event. Manu bagged the bronze medal, finishing behind South Korean shooters, Oh Ye-Jin and Kim Ye-Ji. 

Manu’s incredible achievement also put an end to the twelve-year-long disappointment of Indian shooters at the Olympics as they had failed to win a single medal at the competition since the 2012 London Olympics.

However, Manu’s journey in Paris is far from over as she is set to feature in the Mixed 10m Air Pistol qualifying event on July 29, and later in the women’s 25m Air Pistol on August 2.

Talking to JioCinema following the event, Manu explained how vital of a role ‘The Bhagavad Gita’ has played in her path to success.

The 22-year-old explained how the teachings of Gita helped calm her mind down during the event, and how the preachings of Krishna to Arjun about focusing on your work instead of results helped her bag the bronze in Paris. 

I read a lot of Gita and all, so what was going through my mind is its teaching, 'just do what you are meant to do, just do what you are supposed to do and whatever the destiny, you can't control the outcome of it'. In the Gita, Krishna says to Arjun 'You know you focus on your karma and not on the outcome of the Karma', so only that was running through my mind. I was like, 'Okay, just do your thing and let it all be from here 

The ancient scripture has a deep cultural impact on Indian society and watching youngsters like Manu embracing it on the international stage will have a lasting effect on fans in the subcontinent along with young upcoming athletes. 

Manu’s achievement in Paris also proves to be India’s first medal of the Paris Olympics 2024.
