Avinash Sable in 3000m steeplechase final: Date, time and how to watch Indian runner in action at the Olympics

Avinash Sable is set to feature in the Final of the 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sable became the first Indian ever to qualify for the Final of this event at the Olympic stage. The 29-year-old finished fifth in the first round with a time of 8:15.43 seconds. 

This would have put Sable on the podium in all of the three last three Olympics however, it won’t be that easy for Sable in Paris if he is to finish on the podium and become the first Indian to bag a medal in the event.

Sable will be up against some big names in steeplechase, most of whom have had a better season in 2024 as compared to Sable. The field includes the likes of the reigning Olympic champion, Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco and the current world record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia. 

Sable’s national record stands at 8:09.11 seconds, and the 29-year-old will possibly have to break that if he’s to secure a podium finish in Paris.
