Group G at the Women's World Cup was one of the more open groups of the tournament, with Sweden, South Africa, Argentina and Italy all vying to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Sweden, who finished third at the last World Cup and have reached the final once in 2003, lived up their favourites to progress tag by doing so after winning their first two matches.

Italy had a brilliant 2019 World Cup, defeating Australia in the groups and reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 1991 (and they did it at their first tournament in 20 years!)

Argentina and South Africa qualified for their second World Cup in a row and it was the latter who stunned Italy in the final group match to progress as runners up.
