Manchester City attempted to administer a repeat dose of domestic dominance to Manchester United in the 2024 FA Cup final, but Pep Guardiola was unable to engineer back-to-back doubles, pegged back as the Red Devils dealt City a dose of their own medicine.

City became the first English side ever to win four consecutive top-flight titles when they beat West Ham to get over the line ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.

Yet they fell short of the first true "double double" in English history as they were beaten 2-1 by Man United in this year's cup final.

This is the first time the FA Cup has thrown up a repeat final since Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park met at Kennington Oval in 1884 and 1885. Rovers won both of those games, haviong won the first 2-1. Guardiola will no doubt hope that is an oman.

How many times have Man City reached the FA Cup final?

Alongside their seven titles wins, City have lost out in five finals. The 2024 final was their 13th appearance in the FA Cup final, but they were unable to secure the trophy.

City's most famous final defeat came with a shock 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic in 2013, as Ben Watson scored an added-time winner for the Latics.

Despite beating City in that 2013 game, Roberto Martinez's side were relegated from the Premier League a few weeks later, as City finished second in the table.

Who has won the most FA Cups

Arsenal sit on top of the FA Cup winners table with a small group of Premier League sides dominating the competition in recent seasons, aside from Wigan's moment of glory in 2013.

West Ham are the last team to win the FA Cup as a non top-flight team, with the Hammers winning the tournament in 1980.
