Amid the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan cricket team has once again stirred controversy. This time, it involves a reported private dinner hosted by the team in the United States of America ahead of their opening match.

Reports suggest that the Pakistan players organized a 'private dinner' for fans and offered them a chance to meet and greet the team. However, what raised eyebrows was the entry fee – a hefty $25 per person.

What did Rashid Latif say about private dinner involving Pakistan team before T20 World Cup?

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif expressed his dismay over the event and took to social media to criticize both the Pakistan Cricket Board and the players involved. He questioned the decision to charge fans for such an event and highlighted the potential risks associated with it.

"There are official dinners, but this is a private dinner. Who can do this? It's terrible," Latif said.

Latif raised concerns about the implications of charging fans for access to players, especially if any mishap were to occur during the dinner. He emphasized that while charity dinners are understandable, hosting a private event with a fee is unacceptable.

"People tell me that whoever calls, the Pakistan players just ask, 'how much money will you give?' This has become common. You can go for charity dinners and fundraisers...this is a private function with the name of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket associated with it. Don't make this mistake," he added.

Latif urged the players to be more cautious, especially considering the spotlight on them during the World Cup. He emphasized the need for responsible conduct and suggested that players should refrain from commercializing such interactions.

Pakistan is set to begin their T20 World Cup campaign against co-hosts USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday, June 6. The team will be looking to carry forward the momentum from their recent series win against Ireland.
