In fact, T20 and ODI World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh wanted RCB to reinstate him as captain from next season, when the mega-auction means Faf du Plessis could be let go.

Speaking on Star Sports, Harbhajan said,
If they don't qualify, they should look to get some Indian guy. Why not bring Virat Kohli back as captain. As Dhoni has a lot of impact in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big leader, he knows the kind of cricket they need to play.
Now they are playing with a lot of aggression, lot of intent and that is what Virat Kohli brings. I would like to see Virat Kohli leading the side going forward.
Kohli captained RCB from 2013-2021, leading them in 144 matches in all. Much of this overlapped with his stint as the Indian captain, and he handed the reind over to du Plessis in 2022.
