DK retires: How many matches did Dinesh Karthik play for India and what is his international record?

India and IPL legend, Dinesh Karthik has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 20-year long career. The 39-year-old made his international debut back in 2004, at the the tender age of 19.

Karthik last represented the Indian team in the 2022 T20 World Cup, wherein India made it to the semi-finals of the competition but were knocked out by eventual champions, England. 

The veteran keeper announced his retirement via an heartfelt post on instagram, expressing his gratitude to his fellow coaches, teammates and close ones. In today's story, The Sporting News takes a quick glance towards Karthik's record in the Indian outfit. 

Karthik’s international record 

Karthik played both his debut and final international game against England. Karthik represented India for almost 18 years and was in the squad during India’s triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Champions Trophy win in 2013.

Karthik regularly made the India squad up until 2019, but was dropped entirely following that. He made his comeback in the T20I series against South Africa, managing to put in impressive performances. This earned him a place in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. 

Karthik’s IPL record

Dinesh Karthik has been a part of the IPL since its inception back in 2008. Karthik played for the Delhi Daredevils (DD), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Mumbai Indians (MI), Gujarat Lions (GL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and eventually settled in with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

He had a brilliant season in the latest edition of the IPL, being one of the best players for the Bengaluru side the entire season. His last game was the Eliminator game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR)
