Delhi Capitals (DC) face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 40 of Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

The two teams had faced off on Monday, with DC winning the low-scoring affair by seven runs. Axar Patel had come up with an all-round performance in the match, as he scored a handy 34 and then claimed two wickets for 21 runs.

The Delhi franchise seem to relish this match-up in recent times. The win on Monday was their fifth on the trot against SRH in IPL. Overall, the two teams have clashed 22 times, and shared the honours with 11 wins each.

DC and SRH currently find themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard. While Delhi are 10th in IPL standings with four points from seven matches, SRH are a shade ahead at ninth with as many points but have a better net run rate.

SRH are sorely missing skipper Kane Williamson, who is out with injury, and his leadership skills. While their top order has looked rusty, their bowlers, apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Washington Sundar, have been struggling for form.

Impact player rule is an added feature in this year’s IPL and it can play a crucial role in this particular game also.

What is the 'impact player' rule in IPL 2023?

The introduction of a new rule could be a massive game-changer for the IPL, with one player from each team per game able to be substituted mid-game.

The concept was trialled in the BCCI domestic competition and was widely praised.

The IPL has confirmed that the impact substitute must come from a list of four players, as confirmed before the toss.

Substitutions can be made either before the start of an innings; at the end of the over; at the fall of a wicket or when a batter retires.

Once replaced, the substituted player can take no further part in the match, not even field.

The substitute could replace any player from the starting XI at any point before the end of the 14th over of either innings, and was allowed to bat and bowl his full quota of overs.

In the IPL, teams are permitted to field a maximum of four overseas players per match, meaning if four overseas players are named in the starting XI, the replacement player must be Indian.

The 'impact player' rule should offer greater tactical freedom than other systems that have been used previously in India and abroad, with the BBL scrapping their X-factor sub prior to the 2022/23 season.
