India will be touring Australia for a five-match test series in November, better known as the Border-Gavaskar series. The Indian contingent last toured Australia for a Test series four years ago, which would go down one of the greatest Test series to have ever been played in cricket history.

The five upcoming tests in November mean a huge deal for both teams since the results could heavily influence both the teams’ chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final for the 2023-25 cycle.

One of the best aspects of a Test series between such two heavyweights is a day-night Test match. The pink-ball Test is always a special Test. Although the rules are similar to a normal Test match, a tea and a dinner break is taken during the intervals. The pink ball is used in place of the traditional red ball so the players can sight the ball better under the floodlights.

The Indian team has been reported to play a practice pink-ball Test match ahead of the actual game in the Adelaide Oval during the series.

What happened in the last day-night Test India played in Australia?

The Indians would definitely want to forget their last day-night Test played against Australia since they broke their own record of the lowest Test score in their glorious history. Despite getting into a very strong position ahead of the second innings, it felt that India simply threw away the game on that day.

Batting first, the Indians posted an average score of 244 runs at the Adelaide Oval, even getting a 53-run lead as they bundled out the Aussies for just 191.

However, what followed was a historic blunder. Instead of building on the lead, the Indian batters simply choked in front of fast bowling stalwarts, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood. India were bowled out for a mere 36 runs while Australia chased down the 90-run target with absolute ease.

Scorecard

  • India - 244 and 36
  • Australia - 191 and 93/2 (T:90)
  • Player of the match - Tim Paine (73*, 7 catches)

Nevertheless, the loss marked the start of a comeback for the ages in front of the Indian team. Following the defeat in Adelaide, India went on to win the boxing day Test in Melbourne before pulling off a gritty draw at Sydney.

In the fourth and final Test of the series, the c-string Indian team breached the fortress of Gabba as they won the game by three wickets while chasing 321 runs on the final day of the Test match. Rishabh Pant was the star of the run-chase as he smashed the Aussie bowlers all around the park.
