Ahead of India's tour of Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in November, it has been reported that tickets have been sold in record-breaking numbers for the Test series.

The five-match Test series between the two sides are set to begin in November 2024 and finish in the first week of January 2025.

India are one of the few countries that have been able to dominate in Australia, in the recent past, having won their last two tours down under.

The five Test matches are not only important in this context, but also for the race to qualify for the prestigious WTC final at Lord's in June 2025.

What is the reason for record-breaking ticket sales for Australia vs India Tests?

Joel Morrison, the Executive General Manager of Events and Operations at Cricket Australia, revealed that the upcoming Test series has garnered increased interest this time around.

"The Border-Gavaskar series is highly anticipated, and current ticket sales demonstrate significant interest in the upcoming contest between Australia and India. We encourage fans to buy tickets now to ensure they don’t miss any of the action," Morrison stated.

Morrison highlighted that both set of fans from India and Australia have shown substantial interest, which is a testament of the strong and growing relations between the two countries, both on the cricket field and geo-politically.

Border Gavaskar Trophy: Ticket sales and demand skyrocket for AUS vs IND Boxing Day Test

According to a Business Standard report, "Day 1 ticket sales have tripled compared to the 2018/19 BGT series, reflecting a surge in interest for the highly anticipated matches."

"The sales for Days 2 to 4 have also seen a significant rise, with 5.5 times increase from the 2018/19 series."

The iconic Boxing Day Test is a tradition in Australia, held on the day after Christmas.

The upcoming Boxing Day Test featuring India and Australia is scheduled to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, between December 26 to 30.
