This last-16 tie will be the first meeting of Brazil and South Korea at the World Cup. All six of their previous encounters were friendlies. They also played an exhibition game in the Nike World Tour back in 1997.

South Koreans won't want to dwell too long on their most recent encounter, just six months ago in Seoul. Brazil put on a show, blazing to a 5-1 victory via goals from Neymar (twice), Richarlison, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus.

However, South Korea fondly remember one victory over the Selecao. Back in 1999, a side featuring Cafu, Rivaldo and Juninho were beaten 1-0 thanks to a Kim Do-Hoon strike in Seoul. 

That is the Asians' only victory over Brazil.

Although South Korea didn't take on Ronaldo and Co. at the 2002 World Cup, their team and their nation did played a huge role in Brazilian history. 

South Korea shared hosting duties with Japan at that World Cup, and it is one that will live long in Brazilian memories. 

Meanwhile, South Korea were knocking out some of Brazil's key rivals on the opposite side of the draw, albeit in controversial circumstances. 

Portugal, Italy and Spain were knocked out, causing fury in the European press over claims the referees were seemingly working to assist the hosts.
