Reigning champions Argentina will aim to maintain their perfect record at the Copa America when they take on Peru in their concluding Group A match in Florida.

Lionel Scaloni's team came into the tournament as holders and world champions, and there has been no let up in their relentless tournament form so far, as they have beaten Canada and Chile without conceding.

La Albiceleste are already through to the quarterfinals and only a shock defeat and a four-goal swing away from them and towards Canada would deny Lionel Messi and Co. top spot

That's an incredibly unlikely scenario, even before you consider Peru are yet to score at all in the competition. Jorge Fossati's men were beaten 1-0 by Canada last time out and must win to have any chance of progression.

Argentina vs. Peru lineups, team news

The big news is that Lionel Messi will not play against Peru, after suffering a "problem" in the game against Chile.

The chances are that he would have been rested anyway, but Argentina will now assess his fitness as he nurses what appeared to be a right thigh problem.

Lionel Scaloni is set to shuffle his pack further with qualification already assured.

Lautaro Martinez scored the decisive goal in that game and was also on target from the bench against Canada. The Inter Milan striker could be set to start this one, while Scaloni has pledged to give minutes to players who are yet to feature in the campaign, meaning potential opportunities for the likes of German PezzellaExequiel PalaciosGuido Rodriguez and Alejandro Garnacho.

Argentina projected starting lineup (4-3-3):  Armani (GK) — Montiel, Otamendi, Pezzella, Acuna — Mac Allister, Rodriguez, Palacios — Di Maria, La. Martinez, Garnacho.

For Peru, defender Miguel Araujo is suspended after his red card against Canada, with Anderson Santamaria set to come into the backline.

Luis Advincula (Achillies) remains a doubt, meaning Marcos Lopez is likely to continue at full-back. Veteran 40-year-old striker Paolo Guerrero could be called upon to remedy the team's woes up front from the bench.

Peru projected starting lineup (3-5-2): Gallese (GK) —Santamaria, Zambrano, Callens — Polo, Pena, Cartagena, Quispe, Lopez — Lapadula, Flores.

Argentina vs. Peru prediction

  • Score prediction: Argentina 2-0 Peru

Even if it is a much-changed Argentina 11 and Messi gets the chance to put his feet up, this remains a very tall task for a Peru side that has failed to make an impression on the competition so far.

Don't expect that to change as a group a fresh, talented players come into the Albiceleste starting lineup with an incentive to impressive. Martinez can continue his Golden Boot claims and simultaneously push for a quarterfinal starting spot.

You have to go back to the 1997 Copa America for Peru's previous victory over Argentina and this does not feel like a time for the run to end.
