The 49ers squad is hitting the road for Week 2 to visit Justin Jefferson & Co. in Minnesota.
The Vikings gave a dominant performance in their regular-season debut, blowing out the Giants, 28-6, on their home turf. Quarterback Sam Darnold stepped up, finishing 19-of-24 for 208 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Darnold's debut with Minnesota comes after long-time veteran Kirk Cousins tore his achilles in Week 8 of 2023 and ultimately signed with Atlanta. To replace him, the Vikings selected Michigan wolverine JJ McCarthy 10th overall in the 2024 draft, but the rookie tore his meniscus in a preseason game against the Raiders.
The 49ers are hot off an impressive Monday Night Football debut against the Jets, a 32-19 show that spoiled quarterback Aaron Rodgers' return to the league after a devastating injury last September.
In light of star running back Christian McCaffrey being deactivated due to a calf injury a few hours before the game, undrafted rookie Jordan Mason filled his absence beautifully, carrying the ball 28 times for 147 yards and a touchdown in his first NFL start. Behind Brock Purdy, the Niners scored on eight straight possessions.
