Something is off with Deshaun Watson.

The Browns quarterback has been less-than-good since his arrival in Cleveland, but he hasn't had a case to right the ship in Weeks 4 or 5, as he was dealing with a shoulder injury. Now, we know what exactly is going on.

Watson is still dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered in the Browns' Week 3 win over the Titans, and his status for their Week 6 showdown with the 49ers is still up in the air.

Curiously, Watson did finish out that Week 3 matchup, which turned out to be the best game of his Cleveland tenure. Now, it's murky as to when he'll return to the field with a crucial matchup vs. San Francisco this weekend.

Here's the latest on Watson's shoulder and when he may be back:

Deshaun Watson injury update

According to CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, Watson will not play in Week 6 vs. the 49ers. Watson is currently dealing with bruising around his right (throwing) shoulder, an injury he sustained in Week 3 vs. the Titans.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero adds that Watson's injury is a "rotator cuff contusion," which would explain some missed time.

Watson has tried to give it a go in practices and warm-ups, but he has yet to take the field again, though he only missed one game. The Browns had an early bye in Week 5, meaning he'll have been out for at least two weeks before returning.

Watson generally speaks to Cleveland reporters on Wednesdays but the team told the media he would not do so this week.

It's unclear if Watson will be placed on IR, but the latest update makes it seem as though he's closer to returning than missing an extended amount of time.

What is a rotator cuff contusion?

A rotator cuff contusion is caused when there is a direct blow to the muscle(s) of the shoulder. It can take 2-to-6 weeks to heal, depending on the severity. Shoulder/rotator cuff contusions are dealt with non-surgically, which is a plus for Watson and the Browns.

In Watson's case, it doesn't seem as though it's a tear, which would likely result in season-ending surgery. Instead, it's a matter of pain tolerance and flexibility before he can return to the field.

Browns QB depth chart

Somewhat surprisingly, it won't be Dorian Thompson-Robinson who will get the start for the Browns if Watson is indeed out for Week 6. Instead, it'll be journeyman passer P.J. Walker, who is in his first season with the Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Oct. 11.

Thompson-Robinson started the Browns' last matchup, as Walker was elevated from the practice squad.

Here's how the room fills out as currently constructed:
