Every great garden needs some Black-eyed Susans alongside the roses — and that is precisely what Mage will hope to accomplish on Saturday evening in the 2023 Preakness Stakes.

After all, those colors of red and yellow form an almost unbreakable bond. They are partners like ketchup and mustard or McDonald's and Wendy's. One cannot exist without the other.

So as Mage and jockey Javier Castellano ride into “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans,” it'll be with the anticipation of winning something special being possible down the road — a Triple Crown. If the duo do pull off the win, it'll be the first time since 2018 when Justify swept the first two legs en route to capturing the Triple Crown.

In 2022, Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike didn't participate in the Preakness festivities, which took the excitement surrounding the event down a few levels. In 2023, many will eagerly await the start of the race to see if Mage can do it again.
