Europe is the definitive home of Formula 1 for the next three months as 10 races in a row on the continent (bar one across the English Channel) begin over the course of June through September 2024. First up, we're in Barcelona for the 10th race of the season overall, as the 65th Spanish Grand Prix gets underway.
The European leg of this season had already been partially up and running with back-to-back meetings at Emilia Romagna and Monaco, before heading across the Atlantic for a high-octane finish in Canada last time out.
Max Verstappen returned to winning ways at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, but had F1's three resident Brits hot on his tail, with Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris finishing fourth, third and second respectively; the latter just 3.869 seconds behind the Dutchman at the waving of the chequered flag.

Ahead of this year's Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Cataluyna in the country's northeast, Verstappen remains the man to beat having extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to 56 points. Verstappen won in Barcelona at a canter last year, finishing ahead of second-placed Hamilton by a whopping 24 seconds!
This weekend's race begins at 3:00 p.m. local time (CET) on Sunday, June 23, with Russell and Hamilton, who finished on pole and recorded the fastest lap in Canada respectively, expected to join Norris in the fight to beat Verstappen once again. Spain's two drivers Fernando Alonso and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz will also be hoping for better showings, the latter having retired the car after 12 laps in Canada.
