Nick Kyrgios is through to the US Open fourth round for the first time in his career - and he's set up a blockbuster clash in the process.

The 27-year-old Australian proved far too strong for American JJ Wolf in the third round, claiming 6-4 6-2 6-3 straight sets victory inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Kyrgios belted an impressive 21 aces in the win over Wolf, getting the job done in less than two hours.

After beating close mate Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round and surviving a scare against Benjamin Bonzi, the win over rising star Wolf allowed the enigmatic Aussie to flex his muscle and showcase his undeniable talent at Flushing Meadows.

“This is the furthest I’ve ever gone, so it’s a special year for me already," he said after the match.

"I want to play on the biggest stadiums in the world in front of millions of people broadcasted globally.

"That's where I want to be. That's why I work hard. It makes it sweeter.

"I know a lot of people don't want me to succeed. I know a lot of people hate my game."

In the best form of his career after reaching the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios will now head into a clash with World No.1 Daniil Medvedev, in what shapes up to be the match of the tournament.

After missing the recent Wimbledon tournament, Medvedev made light work of Wu Yibing to reach the fourth round.
