How CONCACAF World Cup 2026 qualifying works

The CONCACAF World Cup 2026 qualifying process consists of three rounds to determine which teams from North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, will participate in the tournament.

In the first round, the four lowest-ranked teams compete in two-legged playoff matches for the right to move on to the second round.

The second round is essentially a group phase. The two first-round qualifiers, plus the 28 highest-ranked nations in the region (excluding the three hosts), are divided into six groups of five teams. Each nation plays two home games and two away matches in these groups. Those who finish in the top two positions of each group will progress to the third round.

In round three, the 12 teams are drawn into three groups of four. Each nation plays double round-robin home-and-away matches, with the three group winners qualifying for the World Cup. The best two runners-up will enter the inter-confederation playoff phase to compete for a spot at the finals alongside nations from the AFC, OFC, CONMEBOL and CAF regions.

Who has qualified from CONCACAF for the 2026 World Cup?

There are three confirmed nations from the CONCACAF region at the 2026 World Cup. These are the three hosts: USACanada, and Mexico. All three qualified automatically and do not have to take part in the qualifying phase.

The Sporting News will update this page as more teams secure their places at the tournament.
