England vs. New Zealand rugby final score: Autumn International 2024 result, stats as All Blacks win Twickenham thriller

New Zealand claimed a 24-22 victory over England following an engrossing encounter at Twickenham to kick-start the Autumn Internationals series.

Two tries from Mark Tele'a, including a magical piece of individual play in the closing stages, helped the All Blacks battle to another narrow win over Steve Borthwick's team following this summer's closely fought Tests in the southern hemisphere.

England had the chance to snatch victory in the dying seconds, but George Ford's last-gasp drop-goal attempt missed the mark, a poor pass making his high-pressure kick even more difficult.

Marcus Smith had been exceptional with the boot throughout and played a key role in the second-half try for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, but bringing down the All Blacks and the inspirational Wallace Sititi proved just beyond their reach.

New Zealand got the game's first try through Tele'a either side of two Smith penalties, but the All Blacks seemed in control after Will Jordan surged through after some excellent work at the breakdown.

Smith had his eye in off the tee, two tricky penalties bringing England back to within two points before the break, although there were groans around the stadium after an ill-judged drop-goal attempt just prior to the interval.

Yet the Harlequins man displayed far greater composure to help England into the lead early in the second half, offloading at the end of a smart interception and strong run, allowing Feyi-Waboso to dive gleefully over the line.

Beauden Barrett thought he had restored the visitors' lead shortly before the hour mark, but the try was disallowed and a penalty awarded to England after Caleb Clarke was penalised for a deliberate knock-on. Smith was unerring from in front of the posts.

New Zealand began to push to close the deficit, with England's defence attempting to exploit counter-attacking chances. One such breakdown saw Ben Earl pulled up for a no-arms tackle, allowing Damian McKenzie to bring the tourists back to within five.

As the pressure built, New Zealand worked it wide to Tele'a, who somehow kept his balance as he bounced off tackles before grounding the ball one-handed in the corner. McKenzie's kick was inch-perfect.

Then came the remarkable finish. Anton Lienert-Brown was sin-binned for a head-on-head collision, George Ford's long-range penalty came off the upright, and England got the scrum after the rebound was dropped. As the clock ticked over the 80 minutes, Ford went for the high-pressure winning drop goal, but it was New Zealand arms raised aloft in triumph as the ball spun wide to the right.
