Cult hero Alex Twal has made a huge call on his long-term future, signing a three-year contract extension to remain with the Wests Tigers.

The 27-year-old was set to come off-contract at the end of next season and hit the open market on November 1, but has opted to recommit and remain at Concord until at least the end of 2027.

Twal has become a popular member of the Tigers' squad and a fan-favourite with the club's diehard supporter base, with the workhorse crossing for his first NRL try this year after over 100 appearances.

The front-rower joins captain Api Koroisau in committing with the Tigers for an extended period, with the struggling club hopeful of returning to the finals under had coach Benji Marshall.

“This club means so much to me and I’m just so happy to extend my stay long-term,” he said.

"I made my NRL debut here at Wests Tigers and it feels like family. We have so much still to achieve as a club and a team, and so do I as a player. I can’t wait to put 2023 behind us and rip into pre-season training in a few weeks.”

Marshall was full of praise for the unheralded Lebanese international, who made his first grade debut with the Tigers over six years ago.

“He works hard, prepares well, and delivers consistently week in, week out," the coach said.

"He is a big part of the Wests Tigers family, and we love his commitment and loyalty to our club.

“It’s great to have Alex here for the long haul and we can’t wait to see him continue to improve his footy here."

According to multiple reports, Twal has taken a sizeable pay-cut in order to remain with the club, going from an estimated $525,000 per season to $400,000 on his new deal.
