Salford Red Devils half-back Rangi Chase has been hit with a seven-match ban after being found guilty of a dangerous throw.

The 28-year-old was charged following his side's 18-12 Super League win over Huddersfield Giants on Friday, following a dangerous tackle on Brett Ferres.

The incident left the Giants man nursing an ankle injury, with Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson urging the authorities to "throw the book" at Chase.

And, having reviewed video footage, the Rugby Football League's disciplinary panel have now opted to hand down a seven-match suspension - one less than the maximum available for a Grade E offence.

Anderson expects to be without Ferres for a lengthy period, saying in the aftermath of the match: "At this stage, we still don't know for sure how long Brett's going to be out – he's still undergoing scans – but we're definitely looking at between three and four months."
