When was the last Paralympics?

The last Paralympics was held in Tokyo, Japan back in August and September of 2021.

The Tokyo games were supposed to be held in 2020 in the regular four-year rotation, however the COVID-19 pandemic forced its suspension for a year, as the world was plunged into lockdown.

Despite fears the games would not take place at all due to pandemic restrictions still in place in Japan, but they eventually occurred, albeit with events taking place behind closed doors or with very limited numbers of spectators.

Australia's record at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

Australia had a highly successful 2020 Paralympic games, finishing eighth on the overall medal table with 80 medals.

However, it was their lowest tally since 2008, being lower than the 81 in 2016 and 85 in 2012; it was well below the 154 medals the country won at the Paralympics in 1984.

Of those 80 medals, 21 were Gold, including Gold medals in consecutive games for James Turner, Vanessa Low, Curtis McGrath, Lakeisha Patterson, Rachael Watson and Dylan Alcott.

Ellie Cole also became Australia's lead female Paralympic medalist with 17 medals over four games.
