Her brother Kai Sakakibara suffered a horrific injury in 2020, which ended his BMX career. A year later, Saya herself had a nasty crash at the Tokyo Olympics.

Sakakibara will compete in the 'Cycling BMX Racing - Women' event.
She took part in the same event in Tokyo, where she reached the semi-finals but exited on a stretcher after a bad crash.
The 24-year-old enters the Paris Olympics in strong form – she took out BMX Racing World Cup in 2023 and retained her title in 2024.
This year's event will take place at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium, which is located in the National Velodrome.
