Bills star quarterback Josh Allen was removed from Sunday's game against the Texans with a head injury.

Allen attempted to lead a fourth-quarter comeback when he hit the ground hard on a near-sack attempt. He was immediately brought to the sidelines and into the blue medical tent for a concussion test.

Allen was having a relatively quiet game with 131 passing yards and one touchdown as Buffalo trailed 20-17.

Josh Allen injury update

Allen returned to Sunday's game against the Texans after a trip to the blue medical tent.

The star quarterback was being evaluated for a concussion after slamming his head on the turf when he was trying to evade a sack in the fourth quarter.

Allen was back in the game one possession later after CJ Stroud fumbled on the next drive. Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky took one snap but Allen was under center the rest of the drive.

Allen led the Bills into the red zone but the offense had to settle for a game-tying field goal with 4:21 remaining in the game.

Allen was able to return to the game. He made some questionable decisions late in the game, but Buffalo lost to Houston 23-20.

On Monday, McDermott reaffirmed that Allen passed concussion protocols during Sunday's contest, per ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg.

The Bills signed Trubisky to a two-year, $5.25 million deal this offseason to be Allen's backup.

The 2017 No. 2 overall pick came from the Steelers where he registered two disappointing starts last season. He went 0-2 as QB1, throwing for 632 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

He has made three appearances for the Bills this season — all of which came in garbage time. He has completed two of his three pass attempts for five yards.
