The Magic have made a big addition to their Summer League roster, inviting former Adelaide 36ers center Kai Sotto to Las Vegas.
Prior to accepting this invitation from the Magic, Sotto played two seasons in the NBL with the 36ers, putting up averages of 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game.
Sotto signed with the 36ers under the Special Restricted Player rule in 2021. While he wasn't technically a member of the NBL's Next Stars program, he was hoping his play in the league would propel him to the NBA.
Sotto played one season in Adelaide before going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft. Sotto then returned to the 36ers for a second season, winning the NBL Fans Most Valuable Player award for the second straight season.
Upon leaving the 36ers, Sotto signed in the Japanese B.League with the Hiroshima Dragonflies. The contract contained an NBA opt-out clause.
In the Japanese B.League, Sotto posted averages of 8.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
The 21-year-old will now look to impress with the Magic and secure a contract in the NBA. He will join Magic draft selections Anthony Black (No. 6) and Jett Howard (No. 11) in Las Vegas.
