The Australian Boomers closed out the group stage of the Olympics with a 77-71 loss against Greece, now reliant on Canada beating Spain to move on to the knockout rounds.

After taking down Spain in their first match, morale felt high for Australia, but subsequent losses to Canada and Greece puts their future in jeopardy.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was predictably incredible, giving Australia all they could handle to finish with 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Jock Landale and Dyson Daniels were Australia's top performers, but after dropping what many people saw as a very winnable game, the Boomers will turn into Canada's biggest cheerleaders as they continue to search for their second straight Olympic medal.

If you missed any of the action, The Sporting News tracked all the live updates, scores, and highlights throughout the game.

*UPDATE: With Canada's 88-85 win over Spain, the Boomers finish second in Group A, to advance to the knockout rounds.

FINAL SCORE: Greece 77, Australia 71

11:22 p.m. - The Boomers fall to Greece. After coming within two points, an eventual eight point deficit gives them some hope to escape the group stage, but they will now rely on a Canada win against Spain.

11:17 p.m. - Patty Mills with a MASSIVE charge drawn on Giannis. Game starting to get chippy, with Giddey and Dante both the recipient of some extra physicality.

11:12 p.m. - Boomers defence is coming to life here, as Dellavedova hustles for a steal and Australia score to make it two point game.

11:10 p.m. - What should have been an open layup for Australia turns into a missed three, and a Nick Kay dive at Giannis' ankles. Sloppy play threatens to lose the Boomers' momentum.

11:05 p.m. - Another Dyson three and a Will Magnay layup sees Australia just seven behind. Giannis continues to dominate, but they haven't run away with it just yet. Greece lead 69-62.

11:01 p.m. - Ladies and gentlemen, we have a video review! Refs taking their time to determine where Giannis or Landale sent the ball out of bounds.

10:57 p.m. - Dyson Daniels finds Landale for an open dunk, and immediately forces an eight-second violation. Some signs of life for Australia with nine minutes to go.

10:55 p.m. - The Boomers slowly but surely close the gap, outscoring their opponents by five points to pull the game within 12. It wasn't pretty though; free throw misses in particular continue to haunt the team, who are 8-of-17 through three quarters. Greece lead 62-50.

10:52 p.m. - Matthew Dellavedova drains a three, but Jock Landale misses a point-blank layup. Story of the night for the Boomers so far.

10:41 p.m. - Duop Reath sees his first minutes of the game, as the Boomers scramble to combat Greece's size and physicality. He pulls down a board that Giddey turns into a transition layup, before getting a block on the next play. Could he be the game changer Australia need? Greece lead 59-43.

10:37 p.m. - The second half begins with more of the same, as Greece push it out to 19 points, before Australia answer with a Nick Kay layup. Reminder - a loss by 18 or more will guarantee the Boomers don't make it out of the group.

10:19 p.m. - Patty Mills misses his last three attempt of the half, and Australia head into the break down their biggest deficit of the Olympics so far. Greece lead 53-36.

10:17 p.m. - Landale picks up his third foul in the first half, and immediately heads to the bench. Magnay and Reath could be looking at bulk minutes if things continue this way.

10:12 p.m. - Another Giannis layup, another Australia timeout. Greece lead 50-33.

10:09 p.m. - Giannis throws it down with the left hand en route to 13 points in the first half, matching teammate Walkup. Dante Exum replies with a dunk of his own, but hurts his injured finger in the process, and misses the and-1.

10:05 p.m. - Dante Exum gets a highlight dunk ruled out with a foul on the floor, before Patty Mills delivers a brutal offensive foul via an elbow to his defender's jaw. Greece lead 40-28.

10:01 p.m. - Nick Kay finally ends Greece's 14-0 run, before Jock Landale chips in two of his own. Now it's Greece's turn to call a timeout of their own.

9:59 p.m. - Greece score their tenth straight point with Australia yet to score in the second period. The Boomers call a timeout as they go down double digits, Greece lead 34-24.

9:56 p.m. - Dyson Daniels goes down and is clutching at his knee. Boomers fans hold their breath but he walks off under his own weight, and is attended to on the bench for now.

9:55 p.m. - Greece waste no time in getting started in the second quarter, as
Dinos Mitoglou drains a triple.

9:51 p.m. - A massive Dante Exum rebound with five seconds left leads to a Josh Giddey three attempt at the buzzer. While the shot gets blocked, a dubious foul call sends him to the line with 0.1 seconds left. Greece lead 25-24 at quarter time.

9:42 p.m. - Jack McVeigh continues to shoot himself further into the rotation, cashing his first shot to bring the Boomers within three. With Greece looking red-hot from beyond the arc, his spacing will be essential.

9:38 p.m. - Giannis showing why he's a former MVP, feasting inside in the first quarter with seven points. Greece lead 15-11.

9:31 p.m. - Early nerves from Dyson Daniels, missing two free throws to start the game, followed by a bad turnover. Giannis opens the scoring for the game on the other end.

Pregame

9:27 p.m. - The Boomers starters are set, with the same first five to take the court in Lille.

9:08 p.m. - Can the Boomers slow down Giannis Antetokounmpo?

8:49 p.m. - Australia's path to qualification will be made simple with a win over Greece.
