Justin Rose isn't a fresh face by any means — he turned professional a quarter-century ago and enjoyed many of the best moments of his career in the 2010s — but he hasn't exactly been a mainstay on major leaderboards in recent years, either.
Experience appeared to prevail for Rose at the start of the Open Championship when weather conditions challenged the world's best golfers. He posted a bogey-free opening round, starting the tournament with 29 consecutive bogey-free holes. That clean start positioned Rose to seriously contend for what would be an unlikely win at Royal Troon.

Rose has one major victory, coming at the 2013 U.S. Open, at Merion Golf Club near Philadelphia.
In a tournament that presented a remarkable challenge for the entire field — no one finished under par — consistency was the difference for Rose. He shot either a 69, 70, or 71 in each of his four rounds, finally overtaking Phil Mickelson for the lead late in the final round and holding on over the last five holes to win by two strokes.
It was a monumental moment for Rose, who turned professional at just 19 and struggled early in his career. He had been building to the victory with six top-10 major finishes leading up to 2013, and the victory remains the pinnacle of Rose's career.
Should Rose win the Open Championship, the 4,053-day gap between major wins would be the longest in the history of the sport.
