What is 'Break 50'?

DeChambeau has gained 1.31 million subscribers to his YouTube channel. A large part of that has to do with the "Break 50" series.

The golfer put out the first episode in August 2023. The goal of the segment is simple — DeChambeau and his guest attempt to break a score of 50 on a course. Typically, the term "break 50" means that whoever is on the links is aiming to post a score of under 50 through nine holes. But that's easy for the defending U.S. Open champion.

Instead, DeChambeau and his partner-in-crime for the video attempt to break 50 in 18 holes in a two-person scramble. Each golfer hits their tee shot, they decide which ball is the best to it, and then they do the same from the next location. Getting under 50 typically means that it is at least 23-under par from the course they are playing at — a monumental task.

Others have attempted this task by hitting from the red tees, which typically are the closest to the pin. DeChambeau elects to increase the difficulty in the challenge, going back to the white tips or further.
